The Hemphill's Music
Joel and LaBreeska Hemphill began their ministry as an evangelistic preaching and singing team. Starting with just the two of them, the team added new members and eventually included their children. This family became one of the foremost groups in Gospel Music. The Hemphills became famous for their talent and the songs that they sang. Most of their songs were written by Joel Hemphill. They have sung Gospel Music for over 38 years having signed as artists with Canaan-Word Records in 1966.
Joel Hemphill has written and, along with his family, recorded over 350 Gospel songs including such classics as: "He's Still Workin' On Me," "Consider The Lilies," "Master Of The Wind," "Let's Have A Revival," "The Only Real Peace," "I Claim The Blood," "The Sweetest Words He Ever Said," and "I Came On Business For The King."
Joel Hemphill has also written seven #1 songs which include, “I Cast My Bread Upon The Water,” "I'm In This Church," "Good Things," "I'll Soon Be Gone," "It Wasn't Raining When Noah Built The Ark," and "He's Still Workin' On Me," which topped the "Singing News" chart for 8 months. Over a twenty-year period, from 1970-1990, they had an average #8 song on the "Singing News" chart.
The Hemphills are recipients of 8 Dove Awards and numerous BMI Awards of Excellence. Joel received a Dove nomination as Songwriter of the Year for 10 different years.
