LaBreeska Hemphill
LaBreeska Rogers Hemphill has spent her life ministering through gospel music. LaBreeska made her debut in gospel music at the age of nine. She sang with her mother and her mother's family, "The Happy Goodman's," in the city of Nashville, Tennessee. Her first stage appearance was at the famous Ryman Auditorium the original home of the Grand Ole Opry as well as monthly Friday night Gospel singings. Deep Christian faith and values were a constant in LaBreeska's life thanks to her two spirit-filled grandmothers, Mama Goodman and Mama Rogers.
In the early 1950s, she traveled as a member of The Happy Goodman Family and later for twenty-five years with her immediate family, The Hemphills. The Hemphill family - LaBreeska, Joel, and their three children- has received a total of eight Dove awards from the Gospel Music Association and numerous BMI Awards of Excellence.
Joel and LaBreeska Hemphill have sung Gospel music over much of the United States and many foreign countries. Sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism of the State of Israel, in November of 2002 they performed numerous concerts throughout Israel including singing for the Israeli army on the Golan Heights. Their television appearances include, The Grand Ole Opry, Crook and Chase, The 700 Club, TBN and Gospel Country. They are regulars on the Gaither Homecoming videos and were also invited guest to the White House for a big Gospel singing when President Carter was in office.
